past lives

While having lunch with dad at Rita's Lebanese Cafe, he said "Man.. you know... Beirut used to be so beautiful. It was a really neat city..." and I got the sense that dad really misses traveling to the exotic places he and mom visited... before us kids showed up.

The outdoor back patio at Boheme is decorated with little tables, strings of twinkle lights and little sculptures. In the corner, there is an old, smaller sized rail car just... sitting there. While having a drink with mom one night, she points to the rail car and says "I used to work in one of those"... and I said.. "oh... you worked in logistics?" and she replied "No... I used to physically work in a rail car in Dubai. They converted them to offices, installed little window AC units, and thats where all the girls worked"

I need to talk more to my parents about things they did and places they saw before we were born. They won't be here forever and i don't want the stories to disappear because they were never told.

Decided: Halloween Costume

all over it. done and done.

WHERE... on this green earth... can i buy one of these?

Tiny Wednesday things

[ meteor photo does not = houston..]

I'm a little peeved i missed the shower this morning. It would have been really neat to see.

From 11 News Weather Blog:

Stay up late and look up

09:02 PM CDT on Tuesday, August 11, 2009

The annual Perseid meteor shower will peak tonight, but you'll have to stay up late and have a sharp eye to spot the fast moving flashes of light. Each year, the Earth passes through the tale of the comet Swift-Tuttle and pieces of that comet disintegrate in our atmosphere resulting in the Perseid meteor shower. They are so-named because the showers appear to emanate from the Perseus constellation. One problem with this year's shower is that there is a waning moon whose light may make it hard to see the bright flashes. So you'll have to be very patient as you scour the skies. Look in the northeast sky after midnight until around 4 am.

Definately looking forward to:
~ visit from a Nebraskan boy
~ a visit to this fantastic place to look for tiny glass bottles lke these:
~ a night of dancinggggg ( maybe dancing, definately music listening) at the dox! ( probably a little photoboothing too..)
~ a saturday filled with sun, boats, cold beers and cheese sandwiches
~ a sunday morning of sleeping in and a visit to the farmer's market
~ and then the dreaded drive to the airport (but i'll not think about that just yet)

Summerfest and (temporary) Goodbyes

Their bags are packed and they're ready to go.

Michelle and Dylan moved to Minnesota today! I wish them the best and I know they will have wonderful adventures exploring their new hometown of St. Paul. So exciting!

Their 1st wedding anniversary is August 30th so to celebrate, they ate the top of their wedding cake they saved. I did not eat this cake.. because its year old cake... eh.. tradition.

Champagne toast before dinner to celebrate their anniversary and the next chapter of their lives together!

This weekend was also the Free Press Summerfest. Thanks to my buddy Nick, I got a free pass! Spent a little bit of Saturday day at Tinsley park listening to music.

Sunday brought much needed sleeping in, chinese food, a swedish vampire movie and a wonderful thunderstorm. I stayed in bed for a long time just listening to the thunder and rain. Very relaxing, easy Sunday (just like Sundays should be).

..because who doesn't need a little PM Dawn in their lives on a Wednesday afternoon?

I don't know what it is about 1992... I'm sure my sister can vouch for me on this one, but for some reason I remember the music of that year so clearly. I was 11 years old, Michelle was 8, and we spent endless hours at the Knights of Columbus swimming pool in Thibodaux, La. We'd get there so early in the day, mom would pack lunches and snacks (cheese or peanut butter crackers, you know.. the kind that come 6 to a pack..) and Big Red sodas (what is that supposed to taste like, anyway? Bubble gum?). They had this big radio by the lifeguard stand that was always tuned to the top 40 station. I posted a few songs that remind me most of these days-they just sound like Thibodaux in 1992- at the pool, spending simple summer days swimming, playing, being brown, blonde and 11.
