ch-ch-changes

OOOOOhh so much has happened the past few weeks! I'm SO happy to say that I'll be able to blog more now but I'm EXTRA happy to say that I have a brand spankin' new job! After a little over 2.5 years with Pegasus, nee Universal Pegasus, I submitted my resignation. It was all so bittersweet, I have lots of happy memories there, I made some wonderful friends and was very comfortable but the times, they are-a-changin' and I gotta roll with 'em. Today marks 1 full week at Bluewater Industries and it's been really good! I like my office, the location is perfect- a little under 10 minute drive, the people are great, very patient and I think I'm going to learn a lot. It's exciting!
With all that's been happening, I haven't been crafting, cooking or playing as much as I'd like, but I did manage to whip out a few Halloweeny things- some little ghosts! I stitched up a little spooky cat and a witch but they have found homes already (shame on me for not snapping photos, though).

My sister and brother in law live in St. Paul, MN where he is a law student and she is a 3rd grade teacher at the Twin Cities German Immersion School. The school has a fall/winter craft sale around Thanksgiving time so I stitched up a tiny MN to donate. I want to do a few more, maybe some variations, like a MN with a smiley face or maybe "You Betcha!" stitched inside.... hmmm..
I hope you're all having a wonderful October... can you believe it's almost Halloween already?? I better get to workin' on my costume!

Green Couture!

Amazingness! In honor of Earth Day, here's a wonderful article about designer Gary Harvey's showcase for GreenShows during NY Fashion Week this year. He used all recycled materials for these beautiful dresses! See full story here.

The Financial Times.
Old trench coats
Scarves
Cowboy/pearl snap shirts
Baseball jackets
I would love to learn how to refurb my old clothes... but donating is just as helpful!

Trials and Errors.

Still working on the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer felt ribbon pins (with yellow rose of Texas!) They're a good way to experiment with different stitches. 12 down, about 18 to go.

Also tried my hand at a tiny make-up bag/ mini softie-wallet... thing. Not quite sure of it's purpose yet, but I'm sure it'll have one.
I love this fabric and just wanted to use it- I'm learning my machine and really need practice so I put this little bag together last night. Bunches of mistakes ( ex: stitching doesn't come all the way down on the left side like it does on the right, top flap not long enough, etc......) but that's the fun part right? Trial and error. The button is just decoration- haven't learned to sew buttonholes yet, but I stitched a little Velcro on the inside to keep the top flap down (there's no interfacing or anything....I should go get some...)
[ nice nail polish...]

Do you get frustrated when learning something new or are you patient with yourself?

Good Cause!

The annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is April 10th and 11th in Houston!
Its the 3rd year and it's getting bigger and better every year.

"A vibrant international city, cultural diversity, picturesque parks and a leading medical community making cancer history-all provide obvious and persuasive reasons why we'll walk in the great city of Houston. You'll walk amidst glorious oak trees, funky antique and craft shops, designer boutiques and pictorial greenbelts while witnessing Houston's skyline, which showcases some of the best modern architecture around...

"The money we raise will provide women and men the breast cancer screening, support and treatment they need regardless of their ability to pay, and so that leading-edge research teams across the country can be powered by the funds they need to fuel their quest for a cure." - [ Avon Walk Houston page ]

My coworker, Chy and her friend Lauren are representing team Breast Foot Forward. They're putting on a few fundraisers around town and are currently taking donations as every little bit you can spare will make a big difference! Visit their page for more info!

Upcoming events:

March 14 ~ Sunday Funday Crawfish Boil @ Vida Loca!!
March 20 ~ Scene Nightclub & Lounge
March 21 ~ Sunday Funday Pub Crawl starting at Lucky's downtown

To contribute, I am making these Springtime inspired breast cancer awareness ribbon pins with selling them for 6$ each, with 50% being donated to the Avon Foundation (see how the money is spent here).

They're about 3.5" tall and 2.5" wide, also available with pale pink ribbon and hot pink flower.

Please let me know if you're interested in purchasing a pin and stop by the Breast Foot Forward team page to donate any amount!

Thank you!
